THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH                  Roy Sansbury, Liturgist

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Early in the morning, we gather at the edge of heaven,

People: finding the gates flung wide open by the One who welcomes all.

Leader: Early in the morning, we come to this holy place of worship,

People: to be touched by the One who offers us grace and love.

Leader: Early in the morning, we worship God, who adopts us into the family,

People: to be filled by the One who would pour us out in service to the world.

*HYMN No. 341 Blessed Assurance, Jesus Is Mine!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen

(Book of Common Worship, PCUSA, p. 53)

*KYRIE ELEISON

Lord, have mercy upon us,

Christ, have mercy upon us,

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: In sorrow so deep we cannot find our way out, God cradles us in comfort; in moments so dark, we stumble over ourselves, God lights the way; in joy which cascades into our souls, God fills us with healing.

People: Even when we cannot see it, God’s hope is all around us, surrounding us with peace and healing. Thanks be to God, we are forgiven. Amen. (Lectionary Liturgies, Proper 11-A)

SERMON          Do You Dream?             by Rev McSpadden

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried, he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
