ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: God spoke and there was light.

People: God spoke and there was sky.

Leader: God spoke and there was heaven.

People: God spoke and land rose from the waters.

Leader: God spoke and plants, animals, fish and birds spread over the land.

People: God spoke and you and I were formed for the belly of the earth.

All: And it was all very good.

*HYMN No. 473 For the Beauty of the Earth

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

Lord, you gave us the power to speak and use our mouths so that we might sing your praises and speak to one another of your grace. Forgive us when we use our words to create death instead of to deliver comfort, to wound instead of to heal, to conquer instead of to commiserate. Keep our tongues still when there is no need to speak and give our words true meaning when we dare to use them so that others might hear your voice in our own. We ask it in Jesus name. Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

Lord, have mercy upon us,

Christ, have mercy upon us,

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: There is good news – and it is this: When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us.

People: Let us receive God’s forgiveness and grace in the light of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

ALL: Amen and Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried, he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
