ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: When we look at the night sky, speckled with stars,
People: we discover the never-ending imagination of our God.
Leader: When we speak to those we usually avoid,
People: we join Christ in the ministry of healing and hope.
Leader: When we set aside time for prayer, as well as wonder,
People: we meet the Spirit who is at our side in every moment.

*HYMN No. 466 O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Leader: It is in the deserted moments of our lives, when we realize how we have failed to love, to act, to be God’s children, that Jesus comes, not only praying for us, but holding us, mending us, sending us forth as new people. Let us come to our God, speaking of those things we would rather forget, so we may once again hear the words of healing and hope.
People: In that effort to cross the finish line of achievement, Always, Listening God, we know we have rushed by those we could have stopped to help. In our attempts to climb the ladder of success, we know we have pushed past those who were to weary to continue and were looking for encouragement. In our channel-surfing for the next big thing, the new game, the bestseller which would change our lives, we pass over that quiet place where we could listen to your heart, and find our true home.
Forgive us, God who hears our hearts. In setting aside false pride, may we reach down to lift up the fallen. In letting go of that security which only deludes us, may we place our lives into your hopeful future. In turning from the stress which controls our lives, may we find the One who leads us into the kingdom of hope and joy, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen

*KYRIE ELEISON
Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: No matter how many times it is said, it bears repeating: God loves us, God forgives, us, God heals us, God restores us to new life.
People: This is Good News! God listens to our words, fills us with grace, and sends us forth to proclaim the gospel to others. Thanks be to God. Amen

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*DECLARATION OF FAITH
Christ calls us to live in the presence of God.
Jesus lived with a constant sense of his Father’s presence.
He put God’s claim on his life above all else.
He joined others in God’s worship and praise.
He drew strength from the Scriptures.
He prayed and taught his disciples to pray.
We believe Christ gives us and demands of us personal lives that are centered in God and open to God’s reality and rule.
Christ teaches us to put obedience to God above the interests of self, family, race or nation; to offer God joyously our money, ability and time.
It is part of our discipline to observe a day of worship and rest, setting aside our own working to enjoy God’s work, celebrating with sisters and brothers the Lord’s goodness.
We need constantly to search out God’s way in Scripture, not expecting detailed directions for every decision, but relying on the Word to tell us who God is, to press God’s present claim on us, and to assure us of God’s grace and comfort.
We are charged to pray for ourselves and others with gratitude, boldness, and persistence, confident that God hears and answers our prayers in ways best to us all.
Life in God’s present issues in life for others, for if we do not love sisters and brothers whom we see, we cannot love God whom we do not see.
