ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Your living and active word created all things; and everything lies exposed before your eyes.
People: When our forebears put their trust in you you rescued them, for all things are possible for you.
Leader: You sent your Son, Jesus, into the world, preaching your message and calling everyone to follow.
People: His word cuts to the core of all things, exposing the addictions that bind us and blind us and hold us back from investing all we have in serving you.
Leader: When Jesus was brought down to the dust of death, dying in the horror of abandonment,
People: you raised him to life again, and through him we have the confidence to come into your presence and look to your grace for our life.

*HYMN No. 260 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Leader: The Spirit calls each of us
People: Merciful God, look kindly upon your human family, we pray. By your endless grace, mend the brokenness that follows our sinning. We confess that we have been quietly wilful or openly rebellious, sending waves of unhappiness among the lives of those around us. We have become infected by the cheap values and selfish goals of the world, becoming so caught up in trivial pursuits that we have little time left for holy wonder and spiritual growth. Jesus Christ, friend of sinners, please never let go of us. Forgive our failings and help us to make amends where we have harmed others. Call us back to the disciplines that flow from faith, that in loving you and one another, we may find that peace and joy for which we were built. Through your love and to the praise of your holy name, Amen

*KYRIE ELEISON
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: It is written that Jesus is our high priest, representing us before God, knowing what it is like to be human and tempted. My friends, Christ is God’s word of absolution. With confidence rejoice at this throne of grace, having received mercy grace to cover all your sin.
People: Amen.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
