ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: We have chosen to be here, where God remembers us.
People: God comes to us, the One who was and is and is to come.
Leader: Like leaves skipping over the carpet of grass:
People: God comes to us, the One who was and is and is to come.
Leader: Like the first glimpses of the sun peeking over the horizon:
People: God comes to us, the One who was and is and is to come.
Leader: Like the moon lighting our way on a cloudless, autumn night: People: God comes to us, the One who was and is and is to come.

*HYMN No. 155 Rejoice, the Lord Is King

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Leader: While there are many with power in our world – power to hurt us, power to hire or fire us, power to control us – only God has the power to forgive us and make us new people. Let us confess how we fear the power of the world, and welcome the power of God’s grace.
People: The choices we make, Mighty God, reveal who we are. Choosing the lies of the world, your Word has not been on our lips.
Choosing independent and isolated lives, we do not reflect your Spirit in our actions towards others. Choosing to exalt the powerful of our day, we are unable to follow the One whose weakness gives us life. Forgive us, God who became weak for our sake. Do not turn your face from us, but help us to face ourselves honestly. Free us from our captivity, so we may faithfully follow Jesus Christ, our King, our Lord, our Savior. Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Shout for joy, children of God! The God who was and is and is to come loves you, forgives you, and renews you. People: God’s Spirit rests upon us, grace and peace are the gifts of our loving God. Amen. (Lectionary Liturgies, Christ the King B)

HOW WOULD YOU SPEND YOUR TIME? by Rev. McSpadden

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*DECLARATION OF FAITH
In Christ God gave us a glimpse of the new creation he has already begun and will surely finish. We do not know when the final day will come. In our time we see only broken and scattered signs that the renewal of all things is under way. We do not yet see the end of cruelty and suffering in the world, the church, or our own lives. But we see Jesus as Lord. As he stands at the center of our history, we are confident he will stand at its end. He will judge all people and nations. Evil will be condemned and rooted out of God’s good creation. There will be no more tears or pain. All things will be made new. The fellowship of human beings with God and each other will be perfected.
