 ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              From a cloud, and in a crowd, God speaks to us.
People:               Calling us to be lovers of justice, to share hope with the broken.
Leader:               On mountaintops, and in neighborhoods, Christ calls to us.
People:               With a word, and with wonder, molding us into who we are.
Leader:               On the playground, and at work, the Spirit whispers in our hearts.
People:   Gathering up our fears, as well as our dreams, and offering them

   to God.

*HYMN No. 138                                       Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

 *CALL TO CONFESSION

Leader:              Sometimes we wait for God to astound us with whirlwinds of

wonders, while God silently offers us grace. God waits to forgive us,

so let us hold nothing back, but place our trust in the One who listens

to our prayers and answers us with mercy.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All:       We admit that we are often afraid to come near you, Glorious

Creator. For if we do, you might see how our faces darken with

anger as we speak hurtful words, or whiten with fear of those who

are different, or redden from the depths of our desires. We can

spend so much time gazing in the mirror of our longings, that we

are unable to see the faces etched with loneliness, hollowed by

  hunger, overshadowed by hopelessness.
You reveal the mystery of your grace, Holy One, by pouring out

mercy upon us. As you bend down to listen, may we speak your

love to all those around us. As you call us into your presence, you

send us out to do your justice which brings hope to the world. This

we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior, our

 Love, our Justice. Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

                Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

 *ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:               On mountaintops and in valleys, in our hopes and in our hearts, God

knows us better than we know ourselves, and God forgives us when

   we cannot forgive ourselves!

People:               By God’s mercy, we are forgiven; by God’s mercy, we are made

whole; by God’s mercy, we are equipped to serve others. Thanks

   be to God! Amen.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*DECLARATION OF FAITH

God created all the worlds that are and upholds and rules everything. We affirm that the universe exist

by the power of God’s Word and Spirit.  God has chosen to give it reality out of the love we have come to know in Christ.

God still works  through the processes that shape and change the earth  and the living things upon it.  The Creator works in all things

toward the new creation that is promised in Christ.   God made human beings along with all the other creatures and charged them to care for the earth

and all that lives on it.  We acknowledge we share in the interdependence  that binds together all God’s creation.     Yet God gives us power to rule and tame,

to order and reshape the world.  We hold the earth in trust for future generations of living things.  The Lord forbids us to plunder, foul, and destroy the

earth.        The Lord expects us to produce, to consume, to reproduce in ways that make earth’s goodness available to all people and reflect God’s love for all

creatures.    The Lord bids us use our technical skills for beauty, order, health, and peace.
