ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:               We are people who have been called to follow where God leads us.
People:               By faith we can obey, even when asked to walk into an unknown future.
Leader:               We are people who have been challenged to tell God’s story to others.
People:               By faith we have the ability to share the good news.
Leader:               We are people who live and move and have our being in God’s love.
People:   By faith we will embrace our sisters and brothers in Christ’s love.

All:         Let us worship the God who shows us the way to love in his Son

                Jesus Christ.

*HYMN No. 272                                                                     God of the Sparrow

*CALL TO CONFESSION

Leader: We would like to keep our sins hidden and our failures a secret. But

God would not have us keep silent, but speak our confessions out

loud, so we may be blessed with God’s mercy and grace. I invite you

to pray with me, saying,

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

People:               You have a vision of all people as your beloved children,

Imaginative God, but we see folks whose language, dress, and

skin make them different. You have a vision of a universe filled

with goodness and beauty, and we damage it with litter, with

   violence, with poor choices.

Forgive us, Envisioner of Mercy, as we confess that we are not

“insiders” but immigrants searching for our true home. You love

us enough to want us to be with you forever, so may we take the

hand of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who leads us into your

   kingdom. Amen.

 *KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

 *ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:               There is nothing to fear. God’s hope is more tenacious than our

despair; God’s joy is more resilient than our grief; God’s love is more

compelling than our hate.
People:   By grace, we are gathered to God. By faith, we rest in God’s

promises of forgiveness and restoration. Thanks be to God! Amen.

 RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*DECLARATION OF FAITH

In his concern for justice in the social order
God has never forgotten the needs of individuals.

In the end the Lord will judge all persons
by the simple, unremembered acts of kindness they did or failed to do

for the least of their sisters and brothers.

We acknowledge God is at work here and now when

people show personal concern for each other

and work to make helping agencies,
including the church itself,
more compassionate.

  We believe God sends us
to risk our own peace and comfort
in compassion for our neighbors.
We are to give to them and receive from them,
accepting everyone we meet as a person;
to be sensitive to those who suffer in body or mind;
to help and accept help
in ways that affirm dignity and responsibility.
We must not limit our compassion to those

we judge deserving, for we ourselves do not deserve

the compassion of God.
