THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  The Holy Spirit has given us life and pours on us the power to become

              new people!
People: The winds of the spirit have given us breath and the fire of the

                 spirit has enkindled in us a love for God and each other.
Leader: Come here in faithfulness and be ready for the surprises that God's spirit

 brings.
People: We open our lives to the presence of God and trust God's promise

 to us that we can live new lives of freedom and grace.

 May God help us to be true people filled with the spirit, letting holy

 surprises fill our days.

*HYMN No. 155                                                             Rejoice, the Lord Is King

*CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

 O Holy God, we acknowledge to you, to ourselves, and to one another that we are not what you have called us to be.  We have not stood by our faith, shared our hope, or reached out with love.  We have done unkind deeds, and we have left undone deeds which could have made a difference in the lives of those around us.  We have failed to speak and act for peace and justice in our world.  Have mercy upon us, forgive our sin, and change our lives, for we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior.  Amen.

 *KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 322)

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost;

    the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
