THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:   Something awakened us this morning-perhaps day's dawning, the smell

                  of brewing coffee, or the sounds of an alarm clock.
People:  And now we gather with awakened spirits to worship with others           the Creator of this day.
Leader:   Something moved us this morning-we left behind a sufficiency of            sleep or a restless night.  We engaged in feeding and dressing.  We left   our homes for here.
People:  And now we gather in this place to worship Christ who moves                among us and to follow the Spirit which leads us into deeds of love.

*HYMN No. 487                                                    When Morning Gilds the Skies

*CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

                  Lord we have sinned, without considering how much you love us.  You see our sins more clearly than we can ourselves.  Lord, you know when we are indifferent to your Word, the Bible; how often we forget to pray; times we come unwillingly to worship; and yet we turn to you when we are in trouble.  Lord you know when we are untruthful and when we think evil of others.  You see our anger and unfairness to our friends.  You know how hard it is for us to forgive.  Forgive us and make us clean, so that we can obey your call to take up the cross and follow you.  Through  Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 322)

 Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost;

    the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
