ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:     We give thanks and praise to our God,
People:   Who delivers us from futility and from darkened understanding.
Leader:   Who is our hope in hard times-
People:   Our mighty and everlasting hope,
Leader:   Who is our joy to please,
People:   And our salvation every day.
Leader:   Come, let us worship our God.

*HYMN No. 263                                            Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

                   O God, you search after us when we have gone far from you, yet we confess that we have become consumed with our own affairs - forgive us.  We seldom pause to listen for the wind in the trees or hear the happy voices of children.  Sometimes we feel that the burden of the world falls entirely on our shoulders, and we have been slow to put our trust in you or to cooperate with others - forgive us. Make us patient with our mistakes, even as we are willing to forgive others.  And remind us that we are also precious not because we are good but because you have accepted us and called us to be your very own.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 322)

 Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost;

    the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
