THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:     We are here because we have heard the call of Jesus
                   in our lives.
People:   We are here to challenge and support one another to
                   rise up and follow.
Leader:   We are here because we want to be God's people.
People:   We come, seeking to be moved, changed, and made whole
                   by the Spirit of the Living God.
Leader:   Let us open our hearts to the moving of the Spirit,
                   and be prepared to leave this place as true disciples
                   of Christ our Lord.  Amen.

*HYMN No. 150                                                    Come, Christians, Join to Sing

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

                  Almighty and merciful God, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.  We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.  We have offended against your holy laws.  We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.  O Lord have mercy on us.  Restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to the world in Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 322)

 Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost;

    the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen

HOPE of Lancaster County

We will be collecting food for HOPE from today through the first Sunday of October.  Needs include self-rising corn meal, self-rising flour, jelly, peanut butter, cereal, juice and sugar.  It is good to send items that are requested but it is also good to send other non-perishable food items, perhaps items that are on sale.

In July our church sent 190 items to HOPE – a total of 171 pounds.  Of the 190 items, we had a lot of requested items (17 assorted meats and 14  pasta with meat).  Also included were many vegetables and fruits (a great variety), even some pet food.

HOPE was so grateful for this food delivery – it was delivered during a time when their supply was low.
