THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:   Let us rejoice, for morning has dawned. A new day has been born,          and we are newly alive to enjoy it.
People:  We know the beauty of God's creation and the wonder of the

                  human family.  We remember those whose love has shaped our          lives.
Leader:   We gather in the church to worship God, to share prayers and gifts,          to pledge ourselves to God's work in the world.
People:  May God bless us, so that what we do in this time together may              be honest, sacred, and filled with hope.

*HYMN No. 473                                                    For the Beauty of the Earth

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

                  God who loves us, you have always given us what we need.  You have taken care of us even when we could not take care of ourselves.

You have given us life and breath.  Why is it we still doubt you?  Why do we still go on our own way, rebelling against you?  Why do we persist in doing everything our own way?  God, we have hurt ourselves and other by being so fiercely independent - forgive us.  Give us courage enough to place our trust in you.  Through the constant presence of the Spirit, we pray.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 322)

 Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost;

    the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
