Hymn No. 250                                                    In the Bulb There Is a Flower

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

Leader:  We thank you for the gifts of music and song through which                 creation has offered you praise and thanksgiving, confession and        lament, prayers and petitions.

People:  May this new hymnal inspire our own songs in times of joy and           sorrow. Enable us to sing in one voice as your gathered people,

  and to join in harmony with all who worship you.

Leader:  By your grace, may the words and melodies shape our faith for                           years to come, and in ways that forever give glory to you, the                   Triune God.

People:  Amen.

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  We have gathered to rejoice in our oneness in Jesus Christ!

              Each of us experiences faith and life in a unique way.

People:  Yet we have one God, one faith, one baptism and one Spirit

              who unites us.

Leader:  Let us lift our hearts as one, in songs of praise, in prayer and in                         listening for God’s word.

All:        Let us be joined as a community, linked in faith, as we worship

              the God who was revealed in Jesus Christ.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)                                                                           Lord God, we confess that each of us is slow to give thanks and to share.  Sometimes we deny our oneness with all your creatures, and seek only after our own salvation, our own needs and hopes.  Challenge us with a vision for all people, that we may commit our lives to your mission in the world, for we are yours.  Through Jesus Christ, we pray.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 288)

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
