CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:   Sing praises to God, Christ our Savior is risen from the dead!

                Alleluia!

People:   Weeping may linger for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

Leader:   You turn our weeping to dancing, God; you remove the garments of

                  mourning and clothe us in gladness.

People:   Now we know victory over death! Now we know joy over

   despair!

Leader:   For God has raised Christ from the grave!  The tomb is empty and

   death has been defeated for all the earth!

*HYMN No. 233                                                       The Day of Resurrection!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

  Almighty and eternal God, we thank you that you have not left us alone in our sin and despair.  Loving us, you have brought us good news and set before us the way of life.  Yet we confess that we have failed to see the way.  In stubborn pride we have spurned your mercy and your help.  In selfishness we have turned away from those who need us.  We have allowed ourselves to be crushed by troubles, as though Christ has not been raised at all.  Forgive our faithlessness, and grant that we may know new life and hope, in the spirit of the resurrection.  In Christ's name we pray.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
