PRELUDE                                                               Janesta Williams, Organist

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP                                                              Choir

Leader:  We gather today, seeking the peace Christ gives.

People:  We gather, in spite of many a conflict, many a doubt, within our

Leader:  We gather, longing for the breath of God’s Spirit to give us courage

               and renewal.

People:  Come, Christ Jesus, who lived and died and rose from death for

               us.  Bless us through the power of your Spirit, and give us the

               courage to live as your disciples day by day.  Amen

*HYMN No. 35                                             Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty

              God of Grace, you are always more ready to forgive our sins than we are willing to admit them.  You give us great promise for our living, and we laugh at you, thinking that we are no good.  You call us to difficult and inspiring missions, and we busy ourselves with other things that we decide are more important.  You challenge us to have courage, and we shrink back, locking ourselves into the safety of our own homes.  Bring us new life, God, so that the crucified and risen Christ may shine in us.  Amen

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 288)

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

SERMON        EVASION                                                              Dr. Johnson

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen

*HYMN OF RESPONSE No. 265           Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun

One Great Hour of Sharing

Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the world. Your generous gifts to this Special Offering help provide relief for those affected by natural disasters, provide food to the hungry, and assist in helping to empower the poor and oppressed. We will be collecting donations until Easter and all loose change collected on Easter Sunday will be contributed to OGH. Thank you!
