Good Friday

PRELUDE                                                               Janesta Williams, Organist

                                      ENTERING GOD'S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader:   Fear and fascination drew observers to the first Holy Friday.  These

emotions have attracted people ever since.
People:   We cannot flee from the pain and suffering which Jesus

  experienced on our behalf.
Leader:   We wonder why one so faithful and loving had to face the agony of

   rejection and death.
People:   Jesus was wounded for our transgressions, and was bruised for

   our iniquities.
Leader:   In this time of worship we join Christ at Calvary.
Our faithfulness is tested at the cross and our lives our judged by

  our response.

*Hymn No. 219                                                           They Crucified My Lord

*CALL TO CONFESSION
Leader:   Judas, slave of jealousy, where are you?
People:   I am here.
Leader:   Peter, slave of fear, where are you?
People:   I am here.
Leader:   Thomas, slave of doubt, where are you?
People:   I am here?
Leader:   Men and women of Jerusalem, enslaved to mob rule,
               where are you?
People:   I am here.
Leader:   Pilate, slave to expediency, where are you?
People:   I am here.
Leader:   The story of Christ's passion and death mirror for us much of our

own weakness and sin.  We all come here as men and women who

have missed the mark and who are alienated from God and our

                neighbors near and far.
Let us join together in the prayer of Confession.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Yes, dear God, it's true. We are not worthy of your love.
We promise to be faithful but we fall away; we forsake you; we flee from you; we betray you; we deny you; we watch from afar; we are afraid. Change us, we pray.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

  Lord, have mercy upon us.

                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
