QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:    Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or

                 take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers;

People:  but there delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they

                 meditate day and night.

Leader:    They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their

  fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither.

People:  In all that they do, they prosper.                                 Psalm 1: 1-3

*HYMN No. 14                                                      For the Beauty of the Earth

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

  Lord, as we come to you in this moment of confession, we ask you to hear our prayers.  Father, we have fallen short of your expectations in our personal lives.  We have left undone those deeds we should have performed and we have busied ourselves in mischievous activity.  Lord forgive.  We too, alongside of the world, have not lived a life that reflects Jesus as our example.  Lord forgive.

*KYRIE ELEISON

               Lord, have mercy upon us.

               Christ, have mercy upon us.

                Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Unison)

            My heart overflows with a goodly theme;  I address my verses to the king;  my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.  You are the most handsome of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever.  Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your glory and majesty.  In your majesty ride on victoriously for the cause of truth and to defend the right; let your right hand teach you dread deeds.                                                                                Psalm 45: 1-4

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 288)

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

             Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

             Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
