THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.  You love

righteousness and hate wickedness.

People:   I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations;

therefore the peoples will praise you forever and ever.

All:       Let us worship God together!

*HYMN No. 338                                             O Beautiful for Spacious Skies

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) When we ponder the vast universe at your command, O God, we are astounded. We are nothing, except that you have given us life. How often we have squandered the gift in meaningless pursuits, killing time we might have invested in honoring you!  Instead we have belittled your prophets and made light of your commands.  We alternate between boasting over our personal accomplishments and near-panic at our inability to cope with life’s challenges.  O God, we confess our desperate need for healing, forgiveness and a new perspective on life.  Amen. *KYRIE ELEISON

         Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 288)

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

                                 RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

   he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen

A paid nursery worker is needed for the 11 a.m. worship service for our children ages 4 and under.  It is a huge blessing for our church to have a number of children in this age group.  We have been providing nursery care the past few months on a volunteer basis but we need to hire someone for this position.  The applicant would need to meet with the CE committee, be approved by the session of the church and submit to a background check before attaining the position.  This is a paid position.  If you know of someone who is interested please contact Pat Oglesby at poglesby@comporium.net or 803-285-8196.

COMMUNITY MEETING:

Wednesday, July 9, 2:30 pm

The Postal Service will hold a meeting at the Van Wyck Post Office at 2:30 pm to answer questions and provide additional information about the POST Plan. At the meeting, local management will share the results of the survey, answer questions, and solicit input. It’s important that as many of us as possible be present at this meeting.
