THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: God calls us in the midst of our lives.

People:  Be still and Know that I am God.
Leader:  God calls us from our lofty ambitions, our haughtiness, from our

occupations with marvels beyond our scope.
People:  Let it be and know that I am God.
Leader:  Come behold the astounding things God has done in the world.
People: God is our strength, ever ready to help in the time of

              trouble.
Leader:  People of God, hope in your God.
People:  That we might calm and quiet our souls like a child quieted at

its mother’s breast
Leader:  God is with us, now and forevermore!

*HYMN No. 31                                                Let Us with a Gladsome Mind

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and to die in faith.  We confess that we are indifferent to your will.  You call us to proclaim your name, but we are silent.  You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle.  You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid.  In your mercy, forgive us.  Give us courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who have served you with faith, hope, and love we may inherit the kingdom you promised in Jesus Christ.  Amen. *KYRIE ELEISON

         Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 288)

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

                                 RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

   he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
