THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord

glory and praise.
People: We shall ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. We shall

bring an offering and come into his courts.
Leader:  Worship the Lord in holy splendor; tremble before him all the

earth.
People: O come, let us worship and bow down before the Lord, our

maker!

*HYMN No. 409                                                                           God Is Here!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)  O gracious God, forgive us for taking such a casual approach to worship. We enter your sanctuary each and every week expecting very little. Our lives are not open to, nor are we aware of your presence in our midst. Worship for us has become a holy habit devoid of meaning. Have mercy on us, O God, and may our lives be open to your Holy Spirit touching our lives this day as we sing and pray and confess and glorify your name in this special place. In Christ’s name, we pray. Amen.  *KYRIE ELEISON

         Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 288)

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

SERMON          DARK DAYS                                        Dr. Craig C. Butler

Sermon Notes
1) Stop telling God about your big problems.

Tell your problems about your big God.
2) God is always there.
3) God provides us with the wonderful capacity to recover.
4) To develop spiritual maturity, we need to face and weather these “Dark

Days.”
5) God takes the agony of our souls and teaches us insights, power, grace,

and love.
6) Make 3 lists
a) List the good things that have happened to you this year.
b) List the dark days that could have happened this year but did not.
c) List the dark days that did happened this year and pray that God will

use them to make, shape, and mold you into a more beautiful useful

disciple and a glorious eternal soul.
7) Allow the love of Jesus to fill your heart and then shine this love brightly

for all to see so that others who might be having Dark Days will be gifted

by this light.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

   he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
