THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  Each morning, God’s grace awakens us,

each evening, God’s peace cradles us.
People:  Compassion is our constant companion,
                        as we go through work, school, the day.
Leader:  In every moment, God is present with us;
God whispers words which can change our lives.
People:  Justice is our faithful teacher,

             pointing to where we can carry out fairness.
Leader:  When we find ourselves groping in the shadows,

God’s light will provide a way home.
People:  We turn the corner, and hope is waiting for us.

*HYMN No. 63                                                                     The Lord Is God

*CALL TO CONFESSION Leader:  The world teaches us many ways to love, but all are based on selfish desires and needs. God teaches us how to love: completely, uniquely, unconditionally. Let us confess our difficulty in loving as God teaches us, as we pray, saying,

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
People:  We are hesitant to confess, Lord God, how hard it is to love as you wish. It is easy to love you with all that we are, except when you ask us to love our neighbor with all that we have. We find it hard to love our neighbor, when it is linked to the way we love ourselves. And it is difficult to love anyone – even You – more than we love ourselves.
Forgive us, Love Eternal. As you took a risk in creating us, help us to take risks to love others compassionately, to love ourselves genuinely, and to love you as completely as you love us in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.  Amen.  *KYRIE ELEISON

         Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:  In God’s Kingdom, all are loved for who they are, not what they do;
in God’s Kingdom, all are forgiven for what they do, and don’t do;

in God’s Kingdom, all are welcomed and fed by God’s grace and

hope.
PeopleForgiven, loved, sent forth – we are not far from God’s

               Kingdom! Thanks be to God. Amen.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 288)

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

           I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
