THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Let us call upon God with praises.
People: We praise You, Lord! Let Your spirit awaken Your

               dreams in us.
Leader:   Like David, let our youth see new visions of Your Realm.

Like Mary, let our children proclaim Your promises.
People: Like Deborah the Judge, may our women lead boldly in Your

sight.
Leader: Like Gideon, may our men fulfill Your word faithfully.
People: Pour out your spirit on us, O God; men and women, youth and

children of Van Wyck, that we may faithfully accomplish the

work You have for us, praising you in our work and worship.

*HYMN No. 336                                                               We Gather Together

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)                                                            Holy One, our lives sometimes seem so paralyzed; by uncertainty, by illness, by fears we can hardly express. We are hobbled by the hurtful things that we have done and by the gracious things we have left undone. Hear us, heal us, Lord. Descend upon us, break into our hearts today that we may be renewed in hope, in love, and in grace. Amen.            *KYRIE ELEISON

         Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: God’s peace be with you.
People: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one

another.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 288)

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen

SERMON NOTES

We have tremendous value to God.

God turns heaven and earth upside down to unite with us.

God has given us free will. We are free moral agents.

It is up to each of us to say “Yes” to God, to accept His love, and be united with Him now and forever.
