CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  Come, Jesus, come.
People: Enter our lives, free us from all fear.
Leader:  Come, Lord, come.
People: Give us strength to carry on. Give us hope and joy sufficient

for each day.
Leader:  Come, Savior, come.
People: Give us power to be your church. Impart your many gifts to

our members that we may be your body present in the world.
Leader:  Come, Emmanuel, come.
People: Bind us close together with your people everywhere. Forgive

the pride, prejudice, and self-righteousness which separate us

from one another.
Leader:  Come, Christ, come.
People: Come to us Jesus, whom we worship and adore, that we may       all be one in you now and always.

*HYMN No. 118                             While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks

   *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)
Merciful God, we confess that we do not know how to prepare for your Advent. We have ignored the promise of your kingdom; we have become distracted by all of the busyness of the season. Forgive us, God. Grant us the simple wonder of the shepherds, the intelligent courage of the Magi, and the patient faith of Mary and Joseph, that we may journey with them to Bethlehem and find the good news of a child born to us. In the quiet stillness of our hearts, help us to make ready for his coming to us again. In the name of Christ, we pray. Amen.
*KYRIE ELEISON

         Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: God’s peace be with you.
People:   Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one

               another.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 288)

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
