*HYMN No. 305                                               Come Sing, O Church, in Joy!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION  (Unison)

Dear Lord,

When we confess our sins, it is often an empty spiritual exercise, because we have no real awareness of these sins.

We have habituated these sins.  We have been ensnared in these sins for so long that they have embedded themselves so closely to us that we cannot distinguish them as separate from our very being.  We cannot smell their stench.  We cannot see their rottenness.  We cannot taste their rancidness. We do not feel their decay.

Lord, please allow us to smell, see, taste, feel our sinfulness.  Help us to consciously and intentionally acknowledge our sinfulness to You and make our hearts open and vulnerable to Your healing cleansing Spirit.

Lord, patiently work with us, clearing away all sins that block us from growing into a closer loving relationship with You and with each other.

Lord, please increase our spiritual health, so we can serve you more and more each day.  We pray in Jesus’s name.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:    God promises us forgiveness and the sustenance we need to amend

our lives.  God rejoices in our longing to be whole.

People:    We give thanks that we are loved and forgiven by God.  We are

  set free to live the resurrected life of faith.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 288)

    Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
