THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

 QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              God, whose splendor clothes the world in light, also illumines the shadows of the heart.

People:              The Spirit, who refreshes as the wind and warms as flame, dwells within, prompting dreams and visions.

Leader:              Christ, whose words set the world rejoicing, whose touch brought the broken to their feet, still summons us to joy and service.

People:              Let us praise and worship God in love and fresh devotion.  Amen!

*HYMN No. 216                                     Beneath the Cross of Jesus

 *PRAYER OF CONFESSION  (Unison)

God of grace, love, and communion, we confess that we have failed to love You with all our heart, soul and mind; and to love our neighbors as ourselves.  We ignore Your commandments, stray from You way, and follow other gods.  Have mercy on us.  Forgive our sin and raise us to new life that we may serve You faithfully and give honor to Your holy name.  Amen.

*KYRIE ELEISON                                                                                      Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:    This is the good news which we received, in which we stand, and

by which we are saved:  that Christ died for our sins according to

the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third

day; and that He appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve, and to many

faithful witnesses.

People:    We believe He is the Christ, the Son of the living God.  He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, He is our Lord and our God.  Amen.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 288)

    Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

 *THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
