THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              The Lord be with you,

People:              And also with you.

Leader:              God calls us to service in the kingdom;

People:              God calls us to be servants.

Leader:              Let us worship the God who calls;

People:              Let us praise the One who sends us out.

*HYMN No. 410                                      God Is Calling through the Whisper

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION  (Unison)

            God of mercy and grace, we confess that on our pilgrimage with you, our footsteps falter and we lose our way.  Our eyes no longer see the light which guides us, our ears grow deaf to the music of heaven’s rejoicing.  We are easily distracted by our own needs and indifferent to the suffering of your world; even our love grows cold.  Have mercy upon us and give us a new beginning.  As the future beckons, keep our feet steady and our hearts strong to follow in the path of Jesus Christ our Lord . . .(silent prayers of confession). *KYRIE ELEISON

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:              Our mighty God forgives us and reclaims us to be His people, to    serve Him in the world.

People:              God forgives us and gives us grace to follow where His spirit rightly leads.  God leads us all at last to the feet of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, to be participants in His kingdom now and forever.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 288)

    Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me;

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, Fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

We will continue to receive donations over the next few weeks.

WE CAN HELP:                                                                                   In May mission volunteers from Providence Presbytery will travel to Honduras on a Dental Mission.  They need our donations of adult and child-size toothbrushes and small travel size tubes of toothpaste.  Please work with your children and families to gather these donations.  If you will bring them to church in the next two Sundays I will be responsible for getting them to the Presbytery Office by May 1.  The new Dollar store in Indian Land has some good deals on these and other stores have them, also.  Thank you for supporting our Central American Travelers.  If you have children in your family this is a good project to talk to them about mission work.

A NOTE TO THE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN                                      I just wanted to thank you and all of your PW ladies for the lovely day at your beautiful church.  You thought of every detail to make it a wonderful Gathering. Lunch delicious! I look forward to seeing you again.

Alice Brice, PW Moderator, Bethesda Presbyterian Church (Camden)
