QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              If God is for us, who can be against us?

People:              He who gave us His Son, now gives us the Spirit and power!

Leader:              The Holy One is in our midst:

People:              Equipping us for life and ministry in the company of Christ.

Leader:              In Christ we are more than conquerors,

People:              For nothing in all creation can separate us from the Love of

              God.

*HYMN No. 338                                               O Beautiful for Spacious Skies

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION  (Unison)

              Almighty God, You poured your Holy Spirit upon gathered disciples creating bold tongues, open ears, and a new community of faith.  We confess that we hold back the force of Your Spirit among us.  We do not listen for Your word of grace, speak the good news of Your love, or live as a people made one in Christ.  Have mercy on us, O God.  Transform our lives by the power of Your Holy Spirit, and fill us with a flaming desire to be Your faithful people, doing Your will for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

*SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:    (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:              Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel.  In Jesus Christ we

are forgiven.  Alleluia!

People:  Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another.

              The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen

* BENEDICTION             Blessing for Pentecost                     by Joyce Rupp

Leader:              May the enthusiasm of the Spirit leap incessantly within us and help

us to live a vibrant life.

People:              May the warmth of the Spirit’s fire be extended through our

  concern and care for all those who need our love.

Leader:              May the blaze of the Spirit’s courage enable us to speak the truth

and stand up for respect, dignity and justice.

People:              May the undying embers of the Spirit’s faithfulness support us

  when we feel spiritually dry and empty.

Leader:              May the strength of the Spirit’s love sustain our hope as we enter       into the pain of the world.

People:  May the clear light of the Spirit’s guidance be a source of

  effective discernment and decision-making for us.

Leader:              May the Spirit’s patient endurance be ours while we wait for what

is unknown to be revealed.

People:            May the joyful fire of the Spirit dance within us and set

 happiness ablaze in our lives.

Leader:            May the spark of our relationship with the Spirit catch afire in the

hearts of those with whom we live and work.

All:      May we be mindful of the Eternal Flame within us, and rely

 upon this Source of love to be our constant ally and steady

 guide.  Amen.
