ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              As the family of God, we gather to give praise.

People:              As the children of a nurturing parent, we gather to give thanks.

Leader:              In search of the spirit, we come as seekers.

People:              In search of models of faithfulness, we hope to realize

  communion with God and community with one another.

Leader:              In faith, hope and love, we open ourselves to the re-creator of life.

People:              In celebration of our blessing, we give thanks to the people of

              faith who have nurtured our belief and revealed the living

              presence of Jesus Christ.

Leader:              Let us rejoice and be glad.  Let us celebrate the goodness of the past

and the possibilities of the future.  Let us worship God.

*HYMN No. 407                                          Spirit Divine, Attend Our Prayers

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

              O God of power and might, all the earth is yours, and you have set Jesus Christ over all things, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come, and have put all things under his feet, and made him to be head over all things for the church.  Forgive us, O God, for we have not been obedient to Christ our Lord.  We have used the good earth for our own greed, not your glory.  We have grown weeds in the good garden in which you placed us, polluted its streams, fouled its air and hoarded its fruits.  Above all this, we exploited our sisters and brothers, Christ’s own people.  Make us alive in Christ,  alive to the beauty around us, alive to the neighbor beside us and alive to the Christ within us.  Give us the skills, and the desire, to be good stewards of the glad inheritance, over which you have set us, that we may return it to Christ without spot or blemish, bringing forth its fruit, for the healing of the nations, to the glory of your own holy name.  Amen

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:    (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:    Friends, believe the good news of the Bible, through Jesus Christ,

we are forgiven.

People:    Because we are forgiven let us be the first to give a friendly

  sign, to nod first, smile first, speak first, and when called for,

  forgive first.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;
