              each other.

darkness.

People:              We seek to walk in the light, as God is light.

Leader:              How wonderful it is to know that the God of grace meets us here.

People:              We quiet our hearts and lift our eyes to worship the God of

              Peace.

All:        Let us worship God

*HYMN No. 396                                       Brethren, We Have Met to Worship

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

Dear Lord,

Forgive us when we forget the pain of your journey to Jerusalem.

We confess that we often forget your example, forget your instructions,

forget the needs of others, and forget our need to change.

We have forgotten to love without expecting something in return.

We have forgotten to live with compassion in our hearts.

We have forgotten to follow the way of your gospel.

And yet we are surprised when we find that somehow we miss the abundant life that you promise.

Our vision is shortsighted. Our lifestyles are counterproductive.

Lord, lift us from forgetfulness. Light the way to the future.

Lead us boldly into Jerusalem to stand with you, so that we might know the power of faithful discipleship.

Help us to be beacons of hope in the midst of poverty, oppression, violence, fear, hatred, and greed.

Make us ministers. Mark us as missionaries. Mold us as messengers of the Good News.

As we confront the devastating threat of evil, walk with us along the journey of faith, so that your example remains our rock, and the Holy Spirit, our counselor and guide.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:    (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:    Friends, believe the good news of the Bible. Through Jesus Christ,

we are forgiven.

People:    Because we are forgiven, let us be the first to give a friendly

                  sign, to nod first, smile first, speak first, and when called for,

                  forgive first.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
