THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              As we come together today, O Lord, we are tossed to and fro on waves of fear and doubt.

People:  O Calmer of troubled waters, let us hear again Your reassuring words, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.”

Leader:              As we come together today, O Lord, we are driven here and there by winds of ambition and pride.

People:  O Healer of troubled souls, let us hear again Your reassuring words, “Take heart, it is I; have no fear.”

ALL:     Come, Lord Jesus, and bless our worship with the gift of Your presence, that we might find peace for our anxious hearts and meaning for our troubled lives.

*HYMN No. 463                                                         How Firm a Foundation

*CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (Unison)

            Searcher of hearts, You have known us from the beginning.  You see in us more good and beauty than we have dared to believe.  You beckon us to do more than we have dared to try.  Forever You call our names.  But we have filled our ears with the sounds of the world; we have timidly spoken of Your great love; we have doubted the gifts hidden within each of us.  Lord, have mercy and forgive us.  Searcher of hearts, shine Your forgiving light into our hesitancy, and embolden us to live with such joy and fire that all the world may know of Your Love.  Amen

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:    (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:              Friends, believe the Good News of the Gospel, in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

People:  As far as the East is from the West, so far God has removed our

             sins from us.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
