ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:              O Lord my God, how great you are!  You are clothed with honor   and majesty.

People:              O Lord, how manifold are your works!  In wisdom you have made them all.

Leader:              You make the clouds your chariot; you ride on the wings of the wind.

Leader:  You make the winds your messengers, fire and flame your ministers.

Leader:              Bless the Lord, O my soul.  Let us worship God!

*HYMN No. 309                                          Come, Great God of All the Ages

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Minister:   Remember that our Lord Jesus Christ is able to sympathize with us in our weaknesses.  In every respect he was tempted as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  Let us now confess our sins to God, trusting Christ as our Savior and Lord, first by joining together in the corporate prayer of confession followed by time of silence for our own personal sin.  Let us pray:

CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION:   (Unison)

            Lord Jesus Christ, you came not to be served but to serve.  But we see life the other way around: to get where we do not give, to exploit whom we have not helped, to use what we have not earned.  As you came to a dying thief and promised him paradise, come to us now in forgiveness and give us hope.  In your name, Lord, we pray.  Amen

*SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:    (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                                 Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:              The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.  He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we, free from sins, might live for righteousness; by his wounds we have been healed.  Let us rejoice.

People:  We believe the Good News of the Gospel, through Jesus Christ,

            our own sins are forgiven.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

            I believe in God the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
