THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 111)

Leader:               I will thank the Lord with all my heart as I meet with his godly

people.

People:               How amazing are the deeds of the Lord!

Leader:               All who delight in him should ponder them. Everything he does

reveals his glory and majesty.

People:               His righteousness never fails. He causes us to remember his

wonderful works.

Leader:               Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey

his commandments will grow in wisdom.

All:         Praise him forever!

*HYMN No. 41                              O Worship the King, All Glorious Above!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (Unison)

Lord, into your holiness and into your righteousness, we bring our brokenness. We come, Lord, to confess that we have sinned and come short of what you would have us to be. Forgive us for our failure to trust you in your providence for our lives. Help us to open our hearts to receive the gift of forgiveness that you offer through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Create in us a yearning to seek your will and your way so that you are forever glorified. We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, and our Lord, Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:   (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                               Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:            The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare

to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

People:            May the God of mercy, who forgives us all our sins, strengthen

us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us

in eternal life. Amen

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
