QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:            We are God’s work of art.

People:            Each one a precious gem, a marvelous tapestry, a potter’s

            delight.

Leader:            We are God’s handiwork, reborn in Christ Jesus to be a blessing.

People:            Every one of us, woven together in love, shaped with infinite

            compassion, painted with incredible beauty.

Leader:            We are God’s creation.

People:            All of us, touched by grace, saved by faith and beckoned to

            praise.

ALL:   Let all God’s people praise the Lord!

*HYMN No. 703                                         Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (Unison)

            Our memories are short, Eternal God, and we need your nudges to remember your blessings. We get caught up in the worries and wrinkles of living and lose sight of your abiding presence. The urgent and the necessary crowd out playful thanksgiving and heartfelt gratitude. We are polite, but distant. We have manners but lack feeling behind the words.

            Forgive us, faithful God, for outward obedience and inner resistance. Let your light brighten our way, your peace ease our anxious moments, your love heal our troubled minds, your joy kindle our memory and hope. Hear our prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:   (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                               Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:            The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare

to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

People:            May the God of mercy, who forgives us all our sins, strengthen

            us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us

in eternal life. Amen

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
