THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Happy are those whose strength is in you, O God.

People: They go from strength to strength for God is certainly among us.

Leader: For a day in God’s house is better than a thousand elsewhere.

People: Gracious God, happy is everyone who trusts in you!

HYMN No. 39                                                        Great Is Thy Faithfulness

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)

            Merciful God, you have called us to sow seeds of faith to further your kingdom. But we confess to you and each other there are times that we are unwilling to do your will. We do not want to get our hands dirty. We question our abilities. We are uncertain if our work will make a difference. Forgive our mistrust. Strengthen us to be faithful and to serve you with joy. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE:   (KYRIE ELEISON)

Lord, have mercy upon us.                                                                                               Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:  If the Lord kept count of all our sins, who could stand? But with

God there is forgiveness; Christ gives us peace.

People:  Thanks be to God!

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
