THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE CHURCH

ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:            Out of the depths, we cry to you, O Lord.

People: Let your ears be attentive to the voice of our supplications.

Leader:   We wait for the Lord, our souls wait and in his word do we hope.

People: Our souls wait for the Lord, more than those who watch for the

            morning.

Leader:            O people, hope in the Lord, for with the Lord there is steadfast love.

*HYMN No. 310                                                 I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (Unison)

Most merciful God, we confess our reluctance to face the dark night of the soul. When troubles come or doubts arise, we often refuse to confront our difficulties. We pretend they are not real to our lives, or we look for a quick fix to our problems, so that we can feel better. You have told us, Lord, that in this world, we will have tribulations. And you have also promised us that in the midst of these tribulations, you will be present to our lives to help and to save. When dark days arrive, O God, help us to rely upon you, a very present help in times of trouble. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Kyrie Eleison)

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Hear the Good News of the Bible:

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever

believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

People: May the almighty and merciful God grant us pardon,

            forgiveness, and remission of our sins; through Jesus Christ our

            our Lord, Amen.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

          I believe in God the Father Almighty,

   maker of heaven and earth.

           And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

   who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

   born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

   was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

   the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

   and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

   from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

   the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

   the resurrection of the body;

   and the life everlasting. Amen
