LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE                  Craig and Beth Denton

Leader: Listen to God’s word of Joy.

O send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling.

Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God. (Psalm 43:3-4)

Leader: It’s getting closer. All:      We feel it! Leader: The days are shorter, but the lights burn brighter. All:      We’re listening. We’re eager to hear good news. Leader: We’ve gathered together in the House of Joy. All:      We’re here to praise God with our voices. Leader: We’re here to praise God with beautiful music. All:      We’re here to praise God with all we have. Leader: Today we light the candle of Joy. All:      We worship God with full hearts of joy!

*HYMN No. 83                                            Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (Unison)

              Eternal God, you are the Creator of light and life. You have created us to live in relationship with you and one  another. We confess the times we have not looked for Christ in our sisters and brothers.  Forgive us and empower us to work for your hope, peace, and reconciliation as we wait for the coming of your Son.  Grant us the wisdom to see your purpose and openness to hear your will, so that we too may prepare the way for Christ.  Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Kyrie Eleison)

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader:   Friends, we hold confidence that if we repent then God is sure to

forgive us of our sins.

People:  The One who began a good work within us will bring it to

              completion. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. .

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE    (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH      The Apostles’ Creed

 I believe in God the Father Almighty

                maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

            I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting.  Amen
