“Glimpses of Grace”

 

Today we begin a 5 week sermon series on “Glimpses of Grace.” Each week we will look into a gospel story of healing and search for glimpses of God’s grace in our time of need. In response to the sermons we will also affirm our faith using “A Brief Statement of Faith,” from The Book of Confessions to claim God’s truth through each movement of the series.

 

The sermon series concludes Sunday February 7 with a Prayer of Intercession for Healing and Wholeness where all will be invited to come forward to receive a blessing and to be anointed with a mark of the cross with oil.

 

Let us begin this New Year searching for glimpses of God’s grace among us.

Today, Sunday, January 10, Providence Presbytery is offering Educational Workshops for churches to grow in faith. The event is called “E3: Educating, Equipping, Empowering” and is led by teaching and ruling elders in the presbytery. The event is being held at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church (421 Oakland Avenue Rock Hill, SC 29730) from 2:30pm – 5:30pm.Register for workshops upon arriving at 1:30pm today.

 

 

** ORDINATION AND INSTALLATION SERVICE

Join us Sunday, January 31, as we plan to ordain and install our Elder Class of 2018: Julia Willingham, Charles Moss (ordained), and Roy Sansbury (ordained). We are grateful for the faithful service of our Elder Class of 2015 who is rolling off session. Many thanks to Craig Denton, Julie Graham, and Glenda Manus. Please be in prayer for the spiritual leaders of our church.

 

 

 

 

NEW IN WORSHIP:

We are grateful to offer new wireless headsets and receivers for visitors and members who have hearing deficiencies. Our hope is for this new technology to allow everyone to fully participate in worship. Simply place the headset on your ears, turn on the receiver to an adjustable volume and experience God’s peace and presence in worship. Please do remember to turn off the receivers when not in use. Many thanks to our session elders for purchasing this needed technology

 

FOOD FOR HOPE

January is one of our months to provide food for HOPE.  Needs include:

Canned potatoes, Canned tomatoes, Canned meats, Canned vegetables, Cereal, Jelly, Dry beans, Pork and beans, Plastic grocery bags

 

 

“LOVE IS A VERB” REVERSE OFFERING

 

We will take action today by passing the offering plate at the beginning of the service for a reverse offering to help the hungry in our county. Please take a piece of paper that lists one item that would benefit the food pantry at HOPE in Lancaster and go shopping. We will collect items in the Vaughan Room through Sunday, Jan. 31.

And we have a record to break. In 2013, we collected and delivered 118 items to HOPE, including 43 lbs. of flour, 36 lbs. of grits, 20 lbs. of cornmeal, 25 cans of soup, 14 boxes of cereal, 10 jars of peanut butter, etc. That was more than 100 percent participation from our congregation!

Psalm 31: 9-10 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eye wastes away from grief, my soul and body also. For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my misery, and my bones waste away.

 

Psalm 31: 14-15a But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hand.

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.
