ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  We enter God’s house forgetting what lies behind,

People:  And we strain forward to what lies ahead in this Lenten                 journey.

Leader:  Let us press on towards the goal,

People:  For the prize of the heavenly call of God in Jesus Christ.

Leader:  Let us worship God!

*HYMN No. 634                                                            To God Be the Glory

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader:  If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not             in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just, will         forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. In                     humility and faith, let us confess our sin to God and one another.

People: Almighty God, our Redeemer, in our weakness we have failed to              be your messengers of forgiveness and hope. We get stuck in the      past and cannot see a way forward that leads us towards hope.     Renew us by your Spirit that we may follow your commands           and proclaim your reign of love; through Jesus Christ our                   Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Kyrie Eleison)

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Hear the good news. The saying is sure and worthy of full              acceptance, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save                    sinners.

People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might

               be dead to sin, and alive to all that is good. In Jesus Christ we      are forgiven.

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Unison)                           The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty

               maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting. Amen.
