ENTERING GOD’S HOUSE

QUIET MOMENT OF PREPARATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:  Early on the first day of the week

the disciples of Jesus went to the tomb

where he had been buried

only to find that the stone had been rolled away

and the tomb was empty.

Friends, we gather here today as Christ’s disciples,

on the first day of the week

to celebrate the Good News of the gospel.

All:       Jesus Christ has risen from the dead!

Leader:  He is risen!

All:       He is risen indeed!!!

*HYMN No. 232                                                 Jesus Christ Is Risen Today

Flowering of the Cross

*CALL TO CONFESSION

Leader: Since sin and death came through a human being, the resurrection of            the dead has also come through a human being. For as all die in  Adam, all will be made alive in Christ. Trusting in that promise of     God, let us confess our sin.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader: Gracious God, we have heard the good news: how on the third day,             Christ rose again.

People:  Still we look for the living among the dead.

Leader:  You rolled away the stone from the tomb.

People:  Still we look for the living among the dead.

Leader:  You sent messengers to proclaim the gospel.

People:  Still we look for the living among the dead.

Leader:  You were faithful to your promise; you have some wonderful                       things!

People:  Still we look for the living among the dead.

(Moment of Silent Confession)

Leader:  Forgive us Lord, we pray. Teach us to trust your promise and to       believe the good news of salvation:

People: Christ is alive; Jesus is risen from the dead. Amen.

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Kyrie Eleison)

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.  Amen

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Hear what the prophets have spoken: that everyone who believes in             Christ receives forgiveness of sins through his name. Friends,                        believe this good news.

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia!

*RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE   (Hymn No. 468, vs. 1&3)

In my life, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In my life, Lord, be glorified today.

In your church, Lord, be glorified; be glorified.

In your church, Lord, be glorified today.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Unison)                           The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty

               maker of heaven and earth.

            And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

    who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

    born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

    the third day he rose again from the dead;

     he ascended into heaven,

    and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

    from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

           I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church;

    the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins;

    the resurrection of the body;

    and the life everlasting. Amen.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

Again today we will be taking donations for One Great Hour of Sharing. Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through OGHS to share God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the world. Your generous gifts to this Special Offering help provide relief to those affected by natural disasters, provide food to the hungry, and assist in helping to empower the poor and oppressed. All loose money collected on Easter Sunday will be contributed to OGHS. Thank you!
