The Rev. Randy McSpadden was born on Christmas Day in 1945 in Great Lakes, Ill.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1968 from Hampden-Sydney College, a Master of Divinity at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1972, and was ordained in Norfolk Presbytery on July 25, 1972.
After a wide range of responsibilities in counseling and other related fields, he was appointed Assistant Minister at Oakland Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, S.C., in 1973.
In 1979, Randy returned to school and earned a Master of Theology (Systematic Theology) with honors from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee School of Social Work in 1982.
In 1992, Randy came to Van Wyck Presbyterian Church as its minister.
The many honors and awards Randy has received include the S. P. Lee Scholarship from Hampden-Sydney College in 1966-1967, the W. P. Bushmeyer Gift for having made the greatest contribution to the life of the seminary, an honor voted by the faculty and student body of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and the Staff of Life Award from the Catawba Dietetic Association for outstanding service in promoting health and nutrition in our community as one of the founders of Presbytery’s Dimes for Hunger Program, both in 1972. Randy founded the York County Hospice and served as President from 1998 to 2003.
Randy is married to Kay Darwin, Head of the English Department at York Comprehensive High School in York, S.C., author and op-ed writer for The Charlotte Observer. They have two sons – Jamie and Will.
